Exploring the emotional links between shapes and colors in paintings is like mixing the ingredients in a cookie recipe. It all depends on how you are able to combine them. Some are great and some are just ok, but there always is one element that stands out. Gestural marks and shapes help me depict a visual design that reads to the viewer something different each time. They can use the imagery of the pieces as a mirror to their own reality and draw their own interpretations from the shapes and colors. I try to do that with my paintings by breaking down images into shapes and then simplifying the shapes that I see. I focus on color and values and shapes that give the space I am creating meaning.
As an artist I find joy in the process of creating and discovering.
